Swine Flu Vaccine Update

So today I drove down to Provo since they were doing a swine flu immunization clinic today. I got up early, got there at 7:45 in the morning and waited in line until 12:15. That's right. You did read it right. 4.5 hours I waited in line!! I have never waited in line that long for anything before. I don't think any ride in Disneyland would have enticed me to wait that long. I don't know if anything would! Maybe meeting David Archuleta? Maybe... Anyway, the line was out in the cold but in the parking garage most of the time so it wasn't really cold. It was really hard to tell how many people were in line and how long it would take. So after you were in line for a couple hours and realized you had a couple left, you had already been there too long to walk away. But the good news is...I did get a shot. So that is behind me and I really don't want to talk or think about swine flu anymore!! But feel free to comment on my difficult day. Standing in line, pregnant with a cold with no place to pee or sit. You do feel sorry for me right? Just kidding-I am okay and it is done. Besides I have to go back and get Savanna a second dose of her H1N1 shot.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

OK, I don't usually use my blog to vent but I am TICKED! Why? Because I have been informed by several different people including my doctor that it is recommended that I get a swine flu shot because I am at a higher risk of complications because I am pregnant. PROBLEM: THEY ARE NOT VERY EASY TO GET!!! Ok, so let me start at the beginning. Tuesday after getting settled back after our trip, I started researching to find out how I can get a swine flu shot. After calling several different people and hearing, "I don't know if we have it in Salt Lake County for pregnant women. I don't know-uggh SO annoying." Anyway, I finally learn that this past week they were doing swine flu shots in Salt Lake County for children 6 months-2 years or caretakers of children under 6 months but that was it. Okay, I do more research. I learn that Utah county has some for pregnant women but a limited supply. Hit the jackpot right? WRONG! So I throw Savanna into the car during her nap time head down to Provo and walk in and they were just giving away the last shots when I got there. Uggh, frustrating right? They had them before I drove down to Provo. Just wait! So I bring Savanna to a clinic in Salt Lake County and she gets one without a problem. Of course, she had to have her in two doeses because she is under two and I have to come back in 28 days to get her another dose. Anyway, the girl that gave Savanna her shot talked to her manager and she told me that on Saturday they are having a public clinic for those at highest risk for the swine flu and if I am pregnant then I can get one. Great I think! That is only a couple days away. And I'm thinking that I am one of the only people that knows about it. WRONG! So anyway, this morning I hurry to get Savanna and I breakfast and get over there (TC works on Saturdays now so I took her with me). I get there and the line is insane! Outside around buildings. Insane!! But I get in line anyway because I'm thinking, "It'll be worth it if I can get the shot!" So I am standing in line for about 30 minutes and a policeman comes and tells us that it is only about a 50/50 chance that we can get the vaccine today. Then a woman comes and does a count and tells me where I am at that I should be able to get it. Then over an HOUR later of waiting in line the policeman comes out and sends home about 20 people in front of me and everyone else behind me saying "THEY ARE ALL OUT OF SHOTS!" I was so annoyed to say the least. I just missed it-AGAIN! We got there about 9:30 and it started at 7 and I thought maybe that would have helped to get there earlier but I talked to some people in my ward today and they said they were there that earlier and they got sent home because there were 1,000s of people there. 1,000s! I just can't believe it. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY APPALLING! WHY IS IT SO HARD TO GET A SHOT? I JUST READ ON MY E-MAIL THAT PRESIDENT OBAMA IS DECLARING SWINE FLU A NATIONAL EMERGENCY. SO WHERE ARE ALL THE SHOTS??!?!?!?! GET THEM TO US!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ESPECIALLY THOSE OF US THAT ARE HIGH RISK!!!! Anyway, I am sorry. I am not an angry person but this has got to me one of the most frustrated I have been in awhile. And to top it off I was late for my Super Saturday for Relief Society and didn't finish all my crafts. What a day! Supposedly there may be shots available in Provo next week. We'll see. I'll keep you updated when I finally get one. For those of you trying to find yourself one? Good luck. And in the meantime I'll just wash my hands and pray I don't get it.

October Update

So we have been busy this fall having a lot of fun! First of all, we went to Alaska for a week to visit TC's sister, her husband, and their two little girls. We had a great time and it was fun for Savanna to spend time with her cousins! We got to see some of the Alaska sites, played games (a Perry family tradition-so fun!) watched a couple movies and the Jim and Pam wedding episode of the Office! (Loved it by the way-I thought it was absolutely perfect for the Office. If you haven't seen it you need to. The wedding scene was my FAVORITE!) Thanks again Kristin and John for hosting us especially after you had just moved into your apartment a week earlier! We had a wonderful time and hope to come back sometime in the future. Here are some pictures of our week together.

Besides that we have been enjoying the cooler air. We got Savanna's costume, decorated a few pumpkins on Monday, and went to a Trunk or Treat. Savanna is doing well. We transferred her to a toddler bed a few days ago. She tries to get out of her bed here and there but not too bad. She said "I love you Mama." today for the first time without any prior prompting. So sweet! It brought tears to my eyes. Here are a couple more pictures from this month.

Trick or Treat! (This is not her costume by the way. She is going to be a lady bug. We just hadn't gotten it yet at this point).

Happy October 1st!

Just wanted to wish you all a Happy October 1st! I love October 1st because it is the start of my three favorite months: October, November, and December. There are so many great things for me during these months: conference, Halloween, my birthday, Thanksgiving, Savanna's birthday, Christmas!! I love the holidays and everything about it. I hope you can smell the fall in the air and it makes you happy! It certainly makes me happy. I also love the fall colors and the fall breeze. Yesterday, I also baked pumpkin spice bread that I got at Costco and it smelt so wonderfully fall. (I would highly recommend it!) Anyway, I'll stop gushing but whatever you are doing today, try to have a Happy October 1st!

Savanna + Fetus= 2 little ones around our house soon!

So I am excited and a bit nervous to announce that we are expecting our second little one due to make his or her appearance sometime around April 11th. We are excited and it will be fun for Savanna to have a sibling. When we ask her if she is going to be a big sister, she just yells, "Baby!" She also says that she wants it to be a "girl baby" but also wants it to be a "brother." Hmm, so she seems undecided. I already had two ultrasounds on both appointments which was cool. My doctor always does one on the first visit and then she was having a hard time hearing the heart beat the second appointment with that thingey majiggy so I had another one. The little peanut looks great and has a nice, strong heartbeat. It was also a relief to see that there is only one sack so no twins! (Sorry Katie S. I know that twins are probably really fun but that would have been overwhelming to me. You are super mom and I am sure you are doing awesome!) So I know that having another child will bring me such incredible joy but I also have a few specific concerns about juggling two kids. So all you moms out there of more than one kid or anyone that has some advice, boost me up! I can do it right? Just a couple questions: How do you shower and get ready everyday? How LONG does it take you to get out of the house? DO your kids nap at the same time? If not how do you accomplish all your household responsibilities? It is important for me to exercise everday, how do you fit it in with two kids? I am sure I have other questions but that's what I can think of for now. Again, I am happy and excited. I don't want it to come out like I am not. I am just nervous too. But it's me right, what else could anyone expect?

I'm learning to sew!

So most of you know that I like to express myself through different ways including music, writing, or physical activities but expressing myself through "creating" something visible like a dress or a craft of any kind is just not my thing. I half jokingly call myself the "anti-craft". I am just terrible at it! Other people will try to tell me "No you can't be that bad" but then they do a craft with me and they understand that I am not exaggerating. However, after learning that my neighbor is a sewing expert and is doing sewing classes for the girls in the ward I decided to give it a go and at least learn some basic sewing skills. I am happy to report that I actually sewed something (with assistance of course). I sewed a pillowcase for a pillow of Savanna's. And I was just about to take a picture of it and post it on here and realized she is taking a nap on it right now. Darn, I'll have to do that later. I know, all you sewing gurus out there, a pillow case is like the easiest thing you can sew but it is an accomplishment for me! I managed not to make too many mistakes though I did scream at one point during one sewing lesson when I almost ran over a pin. My friend's sewing machine is super expensive and awesome and I don't want to do anything to it! I am surprised she trusts me to use it. Anyway, I am proud of myself for at least venturing out to learning something that I know is not one of my talents. Next time I think I will try to make a little skirt for Savanna. I'll let you know how it goes!

Ellen?

Ok, so all you American Idol fans out there, I have to ask you-WHAT do you think of Ellen Degeneres replacing Paula as a judge on American Idol? I was actually REALLY surprised by this news and am not sure what to think of it. I mean she is funny but does she have any musical background at all? I don't think so. I am guessing she will be a nice judge like Paula, but let's be honest, the contestants need to hear more than "You look so dazzling in that dress!". And this is so bad but I am really interested to see what Ellen wears on the show. I don't think we will see her in dresses right? I don't think I have ever seen her in a dress just pant suits. Anyway, no disrespect to Ellen, she may do a great job. It was just a bit of a surprise to me. I thought they should take a former winner like Kelly Clarkson or Carrie Underwood to be a judge. I think that would have been way cool and they could give good advice since they have experience competing on the show before. Ahyway, just wondering what you all thought about it!
